desktop manager for older laptop

I just bought a Toshiba Tecra 500CDT for 50 bucks. I think its 120 mhz, 32 megs ram, cd-rom working, no network access yet but I'm hoping to get a NIC PCMCIA that will work with the old girl.

I'm thinking about installing slackware to start with. Not sure if the latest version will install, haven't tried it yet, any tips on whether to stick with the latest version of slackware appreciated. (or a different distro altogether if you have a better suggestion)

Also, I would like to run X windows. And i do really like KDM. but I have a feeling that it will be a little too much for such an old machine. I run KDM on a debian 500 mhz PII with 128 megs and even on that machine I spend alot of time waiting.

Does KDM run any faster on slackware? Is it a bad choice for my hardware? If not KDM, any suggestions?

Thanks a ton,
-Steve

Slackware is a good choise IMO. Or Debian. As for the wm I tried K on a P MMX overclocked to 266 and it was really slow. But I ran Enlighenment without any problems, you might wanna try it. Or any other less "fancy" managers... You can still make them look quite good. IMO K isnt beatifull at all, just easy to run/configure.

The KDM session manager is probably way too heavy for that kind of hardware. Use xdm instead - it is very light and included with XFree86 and X.org X11.

Window manager suggestions? Blackbox, perhaps OpenBox.
