Any thoughts of possibly installing Fedora 10 ? Fedora 8 is a bit older so the drivers are older as well.. if you look
Here You will also see that
Fedora 8 is no longer supported. , and since this is a new install...
There are patched madwifi drivers
Here for the ar5007, they may fix your problem with the ar5006 as well..

If you do an upgrade the configurations 'should' stay in place but I can't guarantee it. I know Debian is pretty good about leaving modified configuration files alone during upgrades and prompting if you wish to replace them.. Default is to leave them alone. I do not know what Fedoras defaults are during an upgrade.
On the other hand you have successfully made those other configuration changes, but not got wireless working, so you should be able to re-do those minor changes if necessary in order to get wireless working no ?

The 2.6.27x kernel has additonal Atheros chipset recognition. I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 and my Atheros wifi worked out of the box. Try some newer live CDs. Check out at distrowatch.com for which kernel they would have. Happy hunting!

You have an interface,
wlan0
There's power to the transmitter..
Tx-Power=27 dBm
Did you recompile the Driver for the upgraded OS ?
http://madwifi-project.org/ticket/1192
Are you following the first time how-to ?
http://madwifi-project.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo
You have changed OS's so you can't simply say it still doesn't work, and expect a solution.. you need to provide more details..
Can you scan and see any access points ?
How are you trying to configure the Wireless interface ? Forom a config file manually, using network-manager, or wicd, or kwifi ?

it appears that it might be working.. have you tried disabling WPA and connecting to the unencrypted AP ?
That would be a logical next step then you can rule out wether the wireless is working properly or not, or wether your remaining issue is the proper configuration of WPA encryption.
I also recommend using wicd to configure your wireless..
for wpa to work you must select the wext driver in your config.

I disabled WPA and then tried to connect, but not able to connect.
