Unhappy Compaq 1626 Red Hat (1999 Publisher's Version) Beeping?

Alright so I successfully installed Red Hat onto my somewhat aging Compaq laptop, was enjoying having an OS on it finally, and started testing out the speakers by playing a CD; life was great.

Then... Tragedy struck...

I went to boot up my laptop and instead of seeing the usual login screen, I get a series of about eight beeps, and NOTHING.

So.... Anyone have any advice? I've checked a bunch of sites and still have no idea what to do.

Thanks.

Here's a good guide to beep codes.

BTW, Redhat 9 was discontinued about 2 and a half years ago (as I list in my sig block.) Fedora Core is its successor, and you might want to consider using it instead.

The only reason I'm using it is because I was given the laptop from my step-dad, along with a book on UNIX Using Linux, and Red Hat 9 was what it came with. (That and I'm all out of blank CD's! oh noes) Anyway, thank you I'll go check that site out.

Well, I checked that site but none of the descriptions really matched what I was hearing.
I decided to open up the laptop and make sure all the connections were secure and nothing was out of place (though I don't know how it could have changed from one day to the next), tried to boot it again, and damnitalltohell there was that beeping again! Does anyone had any similar experience? This is getting really frustrating.
