Closed lid = KDE lockup

Running SUSE 10.1 with KDE on an HP Pavilion ze5170 laptop. Overall it works well, but one really annoying glitch is that KDE stops responding if the lid gets closed. I have to do a hard reboot to bring it back.

Has anyone else run into this, and/or are there any suggestions for putting an end to this annoyance?

Suse probably tries to put your system in a power saving mode that is
incompatible. Check klaptop, kpowersave and yast's settings about
this, you might try another power-saving mode. Hibernate is
generally known to work well on SuSe so you might try that...

I don't know how to with SUSE but give it a try
just go to /etc/acpi/events/video.conf
and there read the top lines of the file...
To fix it just uncomment them.

1. Edit the /etc/acpi/events/video.conf. This file should contain:
event=video.*
action=/usr/sbin/vbetool dpms on
2. Restart the acpi daemon by typing:
/sbin/service acpid restart
