cardbus detection problem Thinkpad 600

This problem has been through at least 3 distros, Mandrake and now PCLOS .92. I can't get cardbus (32 bit) cards detected correctly. Only "scanpci" will see the card and display the MANFID. "lspci" will not. Harddrake will not detect it. "cardctl status" will show a 3.3V card in the slot, saying "ready", but using "info" gives no information, i.e., the MANFID and other information about the card isn't detected. So the system really isn't seeing the card - whether there's an available driver is a moot point. I've tried a couple of different cardbus cards with same result. PCMCIA works OK using 16 bit cards. I've heard that other users with ThinkPad 600s have successfully used the Linksys WPC54G wireless card with ndiswrapper, but ndiswrapper can't see the card. Is this a ThinkPad hardware or some other configuration problem?

I think I have the same problem + a partial solution

I also have a ThinkPad 600 that doesn't recognize Cardbus cards under Linux. I probably found the function in the kernel code that is responsible for the problem, but I am not sure whether it is a software bug, a problem with ThinkPad 600 or a problem with my particular instance of ThinkPad 600 (hardware failure).
Do you still have this laptop? If so, can you please contact me or just reply to this message?

The (partial) solution

This is what made it (almost) work on my laptop. It seems that 2.6 kernels (probably only before 2.6.17 - the PCI init code has been changed in this one, but I haven't tested it yet) default to direct PCI access when booting on TP 600, and this PCI access method seems not to work with Cardbus cards on this machine. At least this is the case with my ThinkPad.

Booting with pci=bios has helped a bit. The Cardbus card is now recognized, albeit with an obviously wrong device id (0xFFFF). Can you try booting with pci=bios and posting your dmesg output here?
