Cant install debian sarge on hp pavilion

hello there can anybody help me?
i've got a brand new hp notebook and i'm having problems installing debian on it: i booted from cd, did the configurations/installation and when it says "now were ready for starting debaian the first time....." the notebook reboots, grub start, i press linux-2.8.9 (i think!) it loads a couple of things and halts on line:
ip1394 eth1 IEEE-1394 IPv4 over 1394 Ethernet fw-host0

eth1 i suppose is something with my firewire port but i dont know where to switch it off during instllation, AND since i dont get into any shell i cant configure it etc... can anybody tell me what possibilities there are to fix this problem?
thank u in advanced

Just curious!
How often do you use the firewire? I mean your divice "IEEE-1394".
You could disable it in BIOS.
Sarge is still testing distro, it has some issues with hardware

Slackware is a distribution of Linux. The oldest one. Read about it here or at

Try asking on debian forums of maybe direct questions for "darkleaf" or "leonscape"
These members are Debian "Wolves"
