Can I install ubuntu 5.04 on an AMD Sempron processor
Hi,
I am trying to install ubuntu 5.04 for intel x86 on a Mobile AMD Sempron processor, this is the processor of a Notebook HP Pavilion ze2000 and after 30s into the installation(default) everything will just stop. I already have Windows XP on that machine and i want to put ubuntu in a new partition(dual boot).
Does it means this version is not for AMD processor? If yes, which one should I use?
Also is it possible to install Ubuntu in a third partition, with the first one windows XPand the second Red Hat 9?
I was expecting a reply from you since you were the only one who encounterd that problem before.
I think the problem is not just with ubuntu but with the notebook. I tried fedora core 3 and it hang after 5s into the installation, the screen just got blank. I really want to get my hands on linux, can somebody help?
what is wrong with AMD 32 bits Sempron processor and Linux?

Theres nothing wrong, my laptop has a Sempron... It could be that the gpu is not supported or an isssue with the framebuffer, have you tried the text only installer?

I am really a newbie in linux. So what do you mean by "It could be that the gpu is not supported"?
How do I check if something is wrong with the frame buffer?
Also I don't remember Ubuntu proposing me the text mode option during installation. I will check again anyway.
I am also using a sempron notebook compaq v2000 to be exact. Although my installation of ubuntu was not successful, I did manage to get it install, but was unable to start up x windows. I can log in in text mode fine. In the end I installed fedora core 4 and it is working fine.
As fedora core 4 works for you, I think I might go for it too because I am getting somehow tired of trying Ubuntu. My goal was actually to run away from Red Hat technology but as it looks like, i might just have to come back to it.
