Hi guys
New to the forum!. I have a little Acer Aspire E11 Netbook size laptop which I`ve been running Windows 10 on everything ok except the endless Windows updates have now increased the Windows directory to 25Gb which with a 32Gb eMMC onboard drive leaves little to play with. I`ve tried to install a few distro`s on it both with Windows 10 and also on their own using the whole disc. All the distro`s I`ve tried work perfectly from a Live usb stick but the moment I install them they are not seen on the boot menu even when I installed them alongside Windows only Windows was visible in the boot menu. I make sure the uefi partition has the boot flag enabled and with secure boot turned off but all I get when I boot up a freshly installed distro is a screen telling me `No bootable devices`. I`ve tried `sudo apt-get install grub` thinking this would nudge everything to boot ok but nothing even showing I have Linux on the drive. Choosing f12 on bootup which would normally give you the Linux option shows no Linux partition at all and I`m struggling to decide what to try next. If I boot up with the usb stick plugged in and get to the grub screen and then remove the stick I can carry on as normal and everything works fine its just getting the damn thing to boot from disk.
The usb stick was setup using `Rufus` and in the past I`ve used dvd`s to install distro`s on my other laptop leaving the dvd to install and partition itself and never had problems with booting up. Anyone had luck with this laptop and Linux please?. Any distro better than others for these little laptops?. I use Netrunner on my main laptop!
thanks
Steve

It sounds like the boot loader is not installing properly. If you have GPT partitioning instead of MBR partitioning, you probably have to mess around with grub a bit to recognize the partitions. The cfdisk program can be quite helpful to manipulate the partition table.
Couple of questions. I hit this post unintentionally.
I run Windows 10 on an E11 simply to use Dragon Naturally Speaking
It's a bit of a waste, but I had to reinstall Windows after last attempt at dual boot so reluctant to try again.
What did you do to fix BIOS?
Did you have problems with E11 touchpad while using Windows?
Hi Ben
I eventually removed Windows 10 on my E11. The problem with the touchpad became a right PITA so ditched Win 10 and now use Ubuntu 16.10 only. No problems at all and now have 28Gb of space to use ;-). If I remember correctly the Acer web site was the most helpful with drivers/bios and stuff. I did get a new driver for the touchpad which helped with Windows for a while but started playing up again. The E11 is a nice little laptop when the OS behaves itself.
Steve
Happy new year to you too Ben cheers
