Camera Phone

I went to the Verizon store today, and the salesmen there would not sell me a cameraphone that worked the way I wanted it to. He told me that the only way to geet pictures off the phones he showed me was to pay 40 apiece to email them to myself. I might as well develop film!

So I ask the gadget types here on LQ, are there any camera phones that I can plug into my computer with a USB cable and get the pictures off? Somthing like a USB thumb drive I have?

Oh, and it's gotta work with Linux.

Thanks.

I have a Sharp GX30 with a memory card. When I want to transfer the photos to my pc I simply plug the memory card into a card reader.

I back up my contacts the same way, and also transfer photos from my pc to the phone.

I guess any phone that has a memory card would work.

I have no special intrest in Bluetooth, I'd just like a phone I can get the pictures off of. I'll probabbly just get one with a memory card.

Hello!

Siemens' phones are able to transfer pictures via the Siemens data cable, or alternatively via a card reader (they use SD Cards). Unfortunately, i wasn't able to find linux software for this task. Its the only thing i boot up windows for...

Afaik, Sony-Ericsson phones are also able to direct transfer!

greetz,

kai

You didn't tell us which telephone you got. Hard to help then.

If you are thinking about a new phone, then you really should consider BT(BlueTooth). No need for connection with any cable. Works like a charm when I send pictures, calendar or catalog items between phone and computer or Palm. Even use BT to connect to the modem in phone to get connected to Internet from my Palm T3. Have an old Sony-Ericsson phone T-610 (still a really good phone). Can even surf without take phone out of pocket.

Should work the same with IR. BT use same protocols as IR. Some phones have USB-connections or serial connections, but I have never used that.

So look at OBEX (or OpenObex) for transfer information between phone and computer.
