Black screen dsl intall

In trying to install from purchased cd error msg's "unable to recognize" Installation runs smoothly until the very last when configuration process gives the above msg. Also, install corrupts my network connection. I have to reboot modem to reconnect.

Ignore the questions I asked below. Forgot DSL meant damn small linux. I was think Digital Subscriber Line.

Something you could try is remove as much hardware cards you can and see if the install works fine. Could be issue in not understanding one of the device cards.

edit:
What is the question?
What software install?
Which distro?
What kind of modem?
Connected directly to modem or through router?
Which connection wireless, 1394, ethernet?
