Best Cell Phone to hotsycn w/ Linux distro?

I'm in the market for a new cell phone (through Bell Canada, if that matters).

Basically, I want to be able to hotsync the calendar and phonebook in the cell phone with an app in a Linux distro (I flip between Ubuntu and SuSE). I'm not sure which calendars are feature-rich enough in the cell phones, either, to accomodate the type of info I want to add (notes for an address contact, for example, and basic appts. in a calendar.)

I'm completely green in this area and store sales staff won't be of any help, of course. Not even sure which Linux apps you use to hotsync with. Which cell to get? Etc. Googling hasn't helped.

As an aside, I'd also like to be able to download the pictures off the cell to my Linux distro without any hassles. I still haven't figured out if this phones are MSC or if they require software (which would most likely be M$).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rory

Multisync http://multisync.sourceforge.net/news.php is the best syncing app for Linux right now. However this is a GNOME app, so you can't sync you phone with KDE addressbook or calendar. Evolution sync works flawlessly (calendar, addresses, and even notes).

KDE team has come up with an answer Myltisynk (it should be a part of the distro - Suse), but it is not complitely functional yet. There is also Kitchensynk and Rake http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/kde/ . In general I see things changing fast with KDE syncing, so I expect the next Suse (10) would not have problem syncing my Ericsson T610.

I've Nokia phones have an excellent syncing app for Linux, so you might also take look at that. Sorry I don't recall the name.

Thanks very much for the excellent post!!!

Yes, I'd be interested in knowing the Nokia app, as that's one of my options. Googling hasn't yet helped.

Again, thanks!

It is gnokii and you can find it here http://www.gnokii.org/
but if you have Suse, it should be a part of your distro - check if it is installed with YAST.

... just one more thing,
xgnokii is a GUI for gnokii, and it is also in the distro.
