Just installed Hoary and everything works, it is the best distro I have ever used for this machine (dell 500m) and everything works, including suspend to ram (after some fiddling)
I'm using ubuntu hoary (updated through apt) with kubuntu
MY BATTERY WILL NOT CHARGE!!! this means that all my efforts are in vein!!!!
This happens every time I try ubuntu, it's a great distro, but some annoying quirk leaves it useless, somehow I believe I'll need a battery on a laptop... This is the only thing not working, any ideas?
the dell 500m has got a charge indicator, when in suse it lights up, works fine, and the laptop has got a batterylife of 5hours on both batteries, or two hours on the main battery. When in ubuntu, the charging indicator blinks irregularly (which indicates battery failure) with both batteries or one of the batteries in.
I have tried to boot ubuntu (no charging), SuSE (charging) and ubuntu again. (still no charging)
In ubuntu (kubuntu), the klaptop applet displays that the battery is fully charged, but when I disconnect it, I once only got 10m of batterylife;(
This really pisses me of, The new ubuntu really is a nice distro, but this quirk reders it useless to me;(
It seems as though the os is somehow obstructing the charging from functioning, somehow.
It only charges when i boot it with the ac powercord connected
Booting without and then later connecting leaves it running on battery power
When battery is empty , with ac cord connected, pzzzz......
