Are there any uncommented tty (mingetty/agetty) lines in /etc/inittab?
What happens when you press ctrl+alt+f1?

This is just a guess... Server distros tend to be different from desktop ones in that servers only have a single console and no X server. There's no need for multiple terminals(They usually also have remote access ports: an iLO in HP Proliants. an RSA or IMM in IBM X Series.) Could that be why you can't access multiple tty terminals? Would you be better with a desktop distro?

You can set up a server with multiple X Terminals, each usually a diskless system, known as a thin client which downloads its minimal operating system and runs it in memory. This doesn't sound like what you're trying to do though.

Play Bonny!
