acer c720 running debian will not boot after warranty repair to LCD
Hi all,
Acer service centre replaced the lcd screen in my c720 today.
In the process, the main battery was definitely removed (and maybe the backup of tne for system time as well. It had been running debian sid, installed on ssd hard drive - no chrome no dual boot.
Now, when the machine is turned on I get a white screen saying "OS Verification is OFF". Pressing <ctrl l> does nothing. After some time it ends up with white screen saying "Chrome OS is missing or damaged. Please insert recovery USB stick oor SD card"
Does this mean it has reverted to standard bios and is no longer seeing legacy bios?
pressing <ctrl-i> shows that indeed both dev_boot_usb and dev_boot_legacy have been disabled.
All I need is to get a tty without deleting the ssd contents.
If anyone knows if this is possible please advise. I imagine that it is not possible.
If not possible, the best option is to temporararily put in other ssd, delete that, recover chrome, set usb and legacy flags then swap back to my ssd (without resetting flags by removing power from bios chip).
And if that is impossible, then the final solution is to flash the flag settings into the bios. Before swapping back the ssd.
Any other thoughts welcome!
Will ask acer to implement this later today. Thanks for any inputs between now and then.
Actually, that's the problem to solve: How to get at the bios without this chromebook wiping the ssd first. It isn't like a standard pc. I think I had the right solution, but will never know. Acer did not have available a spare ssd, so I drew a deep breath, wiped the hard disk, put chromeos back onto it, set the flags, flashed the bios and this will never happen again.
