64bit linux on compaq v2000z

i apologize if this topic has already arose, but i havent been able to find much info on running a 64 bit kernel on my laptop.

the system is a compaq v2000z 2.0ghz amd turion.

what i need to know, is if there is anyone out there who has this machine, and has sucessfully installed a 64 bit distro? more specifically, has anyone installed a distro that did not have any issues with any of the hardware on this machine?

i'm a newbie, with little linux experience, and i would like to find a distro that uses the 64 bit architecture, and has drivers for all the hardware on this machine.

thanks guys.

i'm not sure about the hardware, but you could run a 32-bit version of linux on a 64 bit machine

well, the machine comes with windows xp pro, so i'd like to get a 64 bit os so i can flex some number-crunching muscle and see what my machine can really do.

you could get 64 bit XP

i find 32 bit linux is better and more stable than 64, even on a 64 bit machine
