Sound issues with Acer Aspire 5050 running Ubuntu

Hi, everyone. I just installed Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) on my Acer laptop. So far, I have had no issues other than this one: the speakers don't work. I get sound from the headphone jack just fine, but for some reason the built-in front speakers have no sound output whatsoever. Any suggestions?

For reference, here are my system's specifications:

Acer Aspire 5050-3242
AMD Turion 64 MK36
ATI Radeon Xpress 1100
1GB DDR2

You have to be a bit more informative on the problem you have, in order to let people help you.

Sound on Acer Aspire 5050 in Ubuntu

Plug in an earphone and sound is probably working, though I seem to find only mono. Seems that the Linux driver doesn't know how to turn on the speakers, however.

If anyone finds out the patch for that, I think there'll be a few grateful users.
