Running make menuconfig results in text file is busy.

Hello All,

I am current trying to install a new custom kernel. When I run the command make menuconfig inside the kernel's directory I get this error.
Code:
[root@localhost linux-2.6.30.1]# make menuconfig
  HOSTCC scripts/kconfig/conf.o
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/gcc: Text file busy
make[1]: *** [scripts/kconfig/conf.o] Error 1
make: *** [menuconfig] Error 2
Does anyone have a clue to what this means?

Thanks.

Maybe the file is open by another process, or it may be marked as such.

Try restarting the computer. If that doesn't work then run a file system check with the partition holding those files unmounted. Usually that would be the root partition.

If that doesn't work then the file could be corrupted or the disk could be starting to fail.

I guess great minds think alike.

I had already ran a file system check on the partition and the system was just off of a fresh reboot.

The hard drive is brand new but ever since I purchased it my machine has been having numerous kernel panics, so I was trying to install the newest kernel.

I would use yum/rpm to remove and reinstall the gcc but I having been having issues with it hanging and/or not responding, but that is another issue.
