Problems debugging usermode linux kernel with gdb

Hello,

In User-mode Linux it is possible to debug the kernel with
gdb: http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/new/index.html

(Google can say this is a spyware site but i don't think this is true.)

When i try to build the linux kernel with make defconfig ARCH=um,
make menuconfig ARCH=um and make ARCH=um, a lot of compile problems
appear, such as undefined references.

I want to step through the kernel to find out how it's working, but can anybody give me help on how to do this? I've tried compiling three different kernels now but all give compilation errors.

I just want to use gdb/kdbg/ddd to find out how the code is executed.

Thanks,

Steven

Double-check your kernel configuration. That's probably the reason for compilation problems. If you don't know where the problem is exactly, post the error messages.
