power button misbehaviour

I have kernel 3.10.20 installed in my Intel dual core machine.
System will properly restart when I press power ON button.
But when I press power Button during kernel booting, then I will not able to shutdown on any subsequent application of power button.
I guess state of power button gets stored some where which need to be clear by kernel on start up.
Does any one has similar issue?
Any on knows how to read status of power button from ACPI?

A good way to smash a linux system is to switich it off whilst it is booting. There is something in /proc/ that can probably help you with this /proc/acpi perhaps, but I do not know for certain, myself.
