parameter passing from user to kernel space

Hi All,

I am a Linux kernel newbie, so please forgive me if my questions seem to be silly.

I have a query as:
if from a application i do:

printf ("the size of integer is %d bytes on Linux", sizeof (int));

so my question is how this data "the size of integer is %d bytes on linux" is passed to the write system call. I want know how the data is exchanged between user space and kernel space, what data structures are used to handle these kind of requests on 2.6 kernel?

The /proc/ directory contains a hierarchy of special files allowing applications and users to peer into the kernel's view of the system.
