nvidia is a kernel module that interfaces with the closed driver code. but it only works with x it has no implementation of the framebuffer. nvidiafb is a driver for the framebuffer but it is opensource that means it isn't developed by the people at nvidia it's developed by volunteers who have to reverse engineer everything so there is no 3d support. Do you like boot into runlevel3 and almost never use X or what? What games do you play?

i'll still use X of course. i can't have lynx handle all my browsing sessions can i .
now about the games. i love playing visual boy advance in console. not much about playing though cause it's the hobby that i'm after. i'm kinda getting interested more on graphics but i want to start it in hardcore mode. try to learn the clean and difficult way. that's my style. i even tried to make the fbcon of libsdl work just to play the vba game. normally vba games don't play in console, they play in x.
so for that kind of learning, i'll choose the console. if the devs found a way to have 3d in x, i'll try to find a way too even if it's difficult.

those 'devs' were provisional programmers with access to all sorts of information you don't have and the full cooperation of the manufacturer. before you spend a couple years re-writing the linux kernel (by which time both the kernel you started with and your videocard will be totaly obsolete.) you should give the nvidia driver for x a shot and try your card with 3d. more games run in x then in a framebuffer anyways. and the framebuffer is usually the most basic support for graphics on a system; when linux gets ported to a new arch it usually starts with no graphics then a framebuffer then (if your lucky) a full blown X implementation. I just don't see why you must run your games in the console especially if it's full screen whats the diff?
i know that but that won't stop me. afterall even if i fail, i still learned something. not a bad idea. and i'm still starting anyway. i'm not after the big 3d gaming already. what i'm after now is just the speed. to have higher fps. you know just fill up the curiousity in me.
when i tried to modify the sdl, i never thought of failing. just modify and then i made it work.
and one more thing btw. the modules of x is really not that complicated as what you think. they're just as complicated as the kernel. maybe the opengl. but what also makes them complicated because there are different types of cards that the modules are required to support. i'm only after 1.
good luck. if you work it out please post back with it.
hey thanks. but not this time yet though. all this agp, 3d acceleration stuff's kinda require great amount of time and focus. next time.. ok i'll just post it anyway.
