No autofs and 3rd mouse button after new 3.0.4 kernel

Hi,
I have an Acer Aspire notebook originally having Debian Lenny. I didn't upgrade to Squeeze because of a nasty kernel bug existing in post-2.6.27 kernels that freezed my laptop after a suspend. Now I successfully upgraded to Squeeze and tried the 3.0.4 kernel (my compilation from source) and found that the bug is missing, but two problems arisen.

1. The more important: No 3rd mouse button in X.
I have the touchpad with two normal button and a middle one with up/down/left/right directions that work as scrolling wheels. In older kernels up/down worked as scrolling wheels and left (or right) as 3rd button. With the new kernels all four work as wheels, none as 3rd/middle button.
This bug is around for a while in older (post 2.27) kernels and I have worked on this problem for a while, trying different xorg.conf files and the like, but haven't solved the problem. (Interestingly, since the var/log/Xorg.0.log says it reads config from the /etc/X/xorg.conf, most changes hadn't effect).
Note that I have the older kernels and after booting them the mouse buttons work as desired.
Note that I tried cat /dev/input/mouse0 that should write chars out as i click with mouse, but didn't, it this helps.
BTW in this case (for the buttons) I should config the mouse, not the synaptics touchpad, shouldn't I?

Any idea?

2. Less important: not working automount
It's simple:
after putting in a CD or an USB drive, older kernels automounted them and put an icon to the desktop. New kernel doesn't.
Autofs module is compiled and loaded, after connecting /dev/sdb1 for the new drive exists, automount is running. The drives can be mounted manually, so their modules (vfat, etc) work. Log files don't differ. But the drives aren't mounted.
Note that, again, after booting the old kernels the stuff works.

But those kernels are unstable, have weak WiFi and so on.

Thanks in advance

Some advance:
As written in the logfile, there is a config dir under /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/, where there is a config file 10-evdev.conf and 50-synaptics.conf (that actoally took the control, so I couldn't make any effect with editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf). By renaming 50-synaptics, I made it inactive, so only 10-evdev did the configuring.

After using xev, I dewised touchpads' button numbers, and successfully configured them in evdev config:

Code:
Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "evdev touchpad catchall"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
	Driver "evdev"
	Option "ButtonMapping" "1 5 3 6 5 6 7 4 9 2"
	Option "SHMConfig"	"on"
EndSection
But I cpuldn't use synaptics driver cause it has no ButtonMapping option, so touchpad isn't the best (but not bad). Also I can't scroll up/down by pressing continuously the up/down button, have to press it again and again, many times.

The second (automount) question was solved by checking which modules are loaded in a well working kernel and check them to be compiled (some was missing).

I've made a good workaround:
With synaptics driver I've made all buttons working (but cannot be remapped) and I made the remapping with xinput (xinput --set-button-map 6 1 2 3 4 5 2 2).
