KERNEL upgradation

Hi buddies,

I want to upgrade the kernel...........so i want the complete procedure for how to upgrade the kernel on redhat 4.

Two ways, one (the offical way) is using RHN and up2date this is covered in the manuals. The other is building your own custom kernel. One can either rebuild a kernel from the source rpm or from kernel.org, details for both can be found here;

If you are using a package-based distribution, you should consider a custom kernel build only very carefully. You probably want to stick with packages, choosing an appropriate one and treating it like any other package-based update that you do. In this way, you simply piggy-back upon the expertise of many.
