Question Kernel 2.6.32 compile not working

Greetings,

I compiled the 2.6.32 kernel. It was my first time doing it. Everything seems to have worked fine.

I rebooted my machine. I get the Ubuntu (9.04) splash screen but then the desktop does not come up. I get a white rectangle in the center of the screen on a black background. I can't see the mouse pointer. I have to hit the power switch to get it going again.

I have an Intel chipset (8485G Brookdale).

Anyone have an idea?

Thanks.

Your kernel was a bummer because you did not compile in what you needed there, or didn't load modules required.
Go for it again. But change the config

Hi,

If your old kernel tree is present, you might have the .config file that was created. Use that one for your new kernel (use make oldconfig first and then a make menuconfig to check and/or change entries).

Using your old config file makes sure that your current setup will stay in place (most of the time, sometimes entries are completely re-written and the old one is removed).

Hope this helps.
