Compiler lacks asm-goto support.

I applied the 5.9.8-9 patch then tried to build, got the

. I did a DDG search and applied all the remedies recommended.

What does this error mean?

/Just Guessing

In Assembler, 'goto <adress>' e.g. 'goto 0x00000000' is an unconditional jump to a specific ram address, and in the example I cited it cracks the system. It was a favourite exploit of hackers back in the day. Get a buffer overrun to run exploit code with the 'goto 0x00000000' and you have root access.

I'm not surprised they disabled it.

Commenting out the test for asm-goto support in arch/x86/Makefile allowed a successful build

Looks like my guess was a good one. Mark this solved. It's rare indeed that I can solve a programming question.
