> 256 LUNs

Hi,

I am new here and would like to ask about kernel tweaks to see > 256 LUNs. I guess I should say that I am running Fedora Core 6. Any help or suggestions or resources would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

I haven't read any specs since SCSI-1 back ... oooh - when SCSI was the new thing. Are >256 LUNs allowed in the newer specs?

Hmm ... I thought SCSI-1 only had an 8-bit LUN - maybe that's the case - can't trust my memory. But apparently, SCSI-2 has an 8-BYTE LUN:

http://osr600doc.sco.com/en/UDI_spec...mts.html#29193

See the section on 'LUN'. Especially the bit about the exceptions - chiefly that most HDs only implement an 8-bit LUN. Now I must resist the temptation to look at the Linux SCSI code to see if it implements the 64-bit LUN. Personally I can't imagine why anyone would implement the 64-bit LUN; even attaching 255 SCSI devices to a single controller (SCSI device LUN = '0') is a bit out of the ordinary. Just imagine the size of the backplane needed to avoid long wiring runs.
