Unhappy Zip drive

Hi,

can any one help with this strange problem:

i have slack 8.1 and a zip drive

and i have added the line:

/dev/zip /mnt/zip250 auto noauto,owner 0 0

in the /etc/fstab file

in the /dev folder i have linked hdd to zip

but when i try to mount the disk it comes up with this

"Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
/dev/zip: No such file or directory
mount: you must specify the filesystem type"

/dev/zip is there and filesystem is set to "auto". this is so annoying

Can anyone help?

Ian

I don't bother with the fstab file with my zip disks.... remember your not mounting the "hdd" device.. your mounting a file system ON that device... which could be hdd4 if it's a standard iomega-formatted disk... for some reason they use the 4th partition by default... so try "mount /dev/hdd4 /mnt/zip" or whatever... if that doesnt work run "cfdisk /dev/hdd" to verify how that particular zip disk is layed-out.

im assuming that since your talking about "hdd" you're using an internal ide zip drive... not a usb or parallel-port. I know the PP zip drives are scisi (sda*) as far as linux is concerned and require the "imm" driver either in the kernel or loaded modularized.
