I get the following error that poped on my bash session:

I ran what it suggested and it returned:

can you forward me to any articles or links on what to check next? some sites say it is a hotspare drive and thus smartd is unable to get the SMART values.

While you can try the command listed below (if you haven't already), it looks to me like your drive has indeed failed.

You can try and enable it by the following command:

smartctl --smart=on /dev/sda
But it does seem to me to be strange that you would need to enable it yourself - I'd still be leaning towards the drive has failed/is failing though.
