Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question xconfig: Pentium Pro or Pentium 4

Hi all, I'm a kernel newbie and I'm about to compile the latest FC3 kernel (2.6.11-1.14_FC3 for i686), but I have a question: when I run "make xconfig" in the kernel source, in the processor type section of the dialog box the default is Pentium Pro, but as far as I know I have a Pentium 4. Which one should I choose. Also, should I leave the other sections of the xconfig dialog as the defaults??
Thanks in advance.

The default comes up as pent pro. I always change this to p4. I like to custom tailor the kernel to my hardware by getting rid of things that I don't need. I also like to change the video drivers to modules so that I can replace them later (I have an ATI card).

Be CAREFUL with the filesystems. I learned the hard way that messing with the wrong things can cause "kernel panic" on boot. If you are not sure what stuff is you are better off not touching it. The nice thing about xconfig is that it will give you descriptions and advice for most of the sections.
