Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Wireless camera ?

I have used an old phone to monitor some equipment wirelessly. I ran IP Webcam on the old phone and attached to it with a Raspberry Pi. The problem is the phones are not holding up to that well to heavy of use. I found this camera on Amazon. Would I be able to attach to it using the same software as the IP Webcam program?
I'm pretty sure my program is just starting the wget program in the background to upload a jpeg image and then displaying it.

Terry

Not an expert but with most of these types of cameras the setup is configured using a smartphone app. The camera, smartphone and the PC connect to the manufacture's server to see the live stream video. It may be possible but I've never tried to access the live video directly using VLC.

Cameras that are for security systems do not need a smartphone app and usually have a web browser configuration tool. Should be able to record the live stream video using vlc or other video utility. Take a look at Foscam.

I'm not sure what software/environment you're working in, but I believe you can do wireless cameras via raspi with Motion - as in, the raspi 'hosts' the camera (either via the raspi's accessory camera, or a USB-connected device), and then connects via WiFi back to your network.
