winmodem and linux distributions

Hallo
I am using a winmodem (diamond supra max 56k usb model # 2890– Lucent atlas modem chipset) which works perfectly with suse 9.3.
Although I have installed many linux distributions on my pc (like slackware 10 and many relatively old distro’s like: mandrake 8, redhat 8), I was unable to make them recognize my modem.

My question:

Is there a way to install the exact type of modem on the premises linux distributions - Is there anything from suse’s source code I can “copy” and “paste” on other linux distributions?
What do you think?

p.s.
I considered the link
http://www.heby.de/ltmodem
(from linmodems.org)
but there are no suggestions for slackware

Couldn't really just copy across code, but it's the driver SuSE uses that's important. There is winmodem package and module available within the kernel I think, but I've never looked since I've ran a DSL line for years. This would let you configure it under Slackware.
