Will a pc generate less heat running linux than it would if it were running XP?

My wife's portable's fan is not working well and the manufacturer (LG, or more aptly, LNSG - Life's not so good!) will not or cannot supply a replacement.

So, I was wondering if linux is cooler than XP.

Not really. They both do the CPU throttling thing when the CPU is going underused.

Fry's might have a replacement. Be a bummer when the $5.00 thingy fails and the machine shuts down...
