This is not linux specific, but, this is the best place I know to get knowledgable opinions on hardware. I am recieving ~$100 gift towards a computer I am putting together. My question for you is, which would you buy?
And additional 256meg PC2700 DDR RAM (in addition to the 512meg DIMM I was already going to purchase) and get an AMD 2000+ instead of the AMD 1900+
OR
A Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer w/ a new 5pc set of Altec Lansing speakers (otherwise, I will simply have onboard AC'97 audio with old 3pc cambridge soundworks speakers)
The setup, independent of any above decisions, will be:
AMD 1900+
AOpen AK77-333 (w/ USB 2.0) mother board
Geforce 3 TI 200 128meg
512meg PC2700 (333mgz) RAM
Supercase Foxconn case w/ front side USB and 350W PS
30gig ATA66 HD (from old setup)
HP 8200i CD-RW (from old setup)
The coolest frame rates in Quake and compiling the kernel in 2 minutes instead of 2:10, or the ability to crack the plaster and annoy your neighbors 4 doors down.
I'm for B too, my crap C-Media card needs the boot soon, :-)
