what do i do for sound?

hey, i installed a base instalation of redhat and then put on xfree86 and fluxbox, anyways i was wondering how to get sound out of my system.

do i only need a audio player? or do i need to configure my sound card, and in gnome there was a program that helped configure the max volume, are there any substiturtes to that?

just dont tell me to get anything that uses source install and requires gtk+ cause my system is F**KED when it comes to gtk+ and source.

hmm, redhat should have installed a util called sndconfig, run that in a virtual console (alt-ctl F1-F6, F7 for x) follow the onscreen instructions and it should configure your sound card, as for source, you should go back, into the installer, run the 'upgrade option' and install the 'development tools' package

i did that, im not a newb, i installed basically every development tool I need right off the bat, i even tried to reinstall gtk+ from source (cause the rpm doesnt make a difference) and it had a library version error, and when i treid to install the newer library it had an during configuration, even after i got past that error and reinstalled the library gtk+ still doesnt find it from source.

I have deduced that I will get slackware, cause I have been told that its more source freindly. I have also been told that redhat is particularly source Unfreindly
