What 4 or 8 port Serial cards work natively in Ubuntu 20.04?

Hello,

I wish to add at least 4 to maybe 8 serial ports to my Ubuntu 20.04 Linux machine. I do not need the smart serial cards like the rocket port I think the one brand or type was called. I am looking at the Start Tech line with just the usual 16550 type UART. I am assuming now a day manufactures are using more of a driver serial port like back in the old days of the "win modems" it was not a real rs232 UART chip but only ran under Windows because it was more or less a software modem and not a true hardware one. Anyway I see alot of decent Star Tech 4 and 8 port serial boards and mode just seem to be supported in Windows. So if by any chance there is a list or several current new models that are just plug and ply so to speak I would like to know what brands and models people are using to help me buy a reasonable priced multi port card. I am very happy to see that Ubuntu 20.04 works and plays nicely with Cisco's USB console cable. I have many older switches and routers that use the old Serial adapter and cable.

Sincerely,
Chad

Check your kernel configuration for these multi-port cards:

Bios and motherboard may also affect this choice. I've used digi edgeport products for years.

Smile Thank you

Thank you everyone. Looks like everything is going by way of USB which is good. I was still looking for an internal PCI card and not something that hung off the USB. But Since I have updated my Cisco Switches to 3750X and they have a USB console, and their Console / USB cable works great under Linux / Ubuntu. Call me old Fashion but was looking for a 4 to 8 port card to install. Going forward don't think I will need that but I do see the 4 and 8 port digi edgeport devices that will give me the DB9 serial if wanted. Thank you for the information and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Chad
