VIA C7 CPU temprature

Does anybody know wich temperatures a VIA C7 processor can tolerate (max) ?

If i let the server run without the top: ~40°C (104 Fahrenheit)
If i let the server run _with_ the top on: ~65°C (149 Fahrenheit)

Someone over at silentpcreview.com suggests that the C7 can easely tolerate temperatures of 100°C (212 Fahrenheit)

Any suggestions are very welcome.

Have you looked at the specs for your processor? I tried, but via.com.tw is down for me

Yes via.com.tw is down at the moment. And i can't seem to find the specs.

Is 65°C OK generally ?

Depends on the model. Like AlucardZero, I dont seem to be able to get into the VIA site right now, but I did find this-

Quote:
The 1.0GHz VIA Eden ULV version of Poseidon operates fanless over the extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The 2.0GHz VIA C7 version of Poseidon operates with a fan from -20°C to +70°C.

Unless you've got a ULV (ultra low voltage) model, 65C might be pushing it.

It should be easy enough to fix though. A bit more airflow and/or a newer/bigger heatsink should do the job. I have no idea how much room you have in your server, so this might not work, but have a look at this for an idea-

Mounted to the expansion slot, with a slow running 92/120mm fan it should be almost silent and really drop the temp.

I have a mini-itx case for the board. http://www.idotpc.com/TheStore/pc/vi...&idproduct=503 So there is no room for extra cooling.

It will just have to be topless on hot summer days then
