I have a mp3 player usb device wich i would like to use in my gentoo system, i can see it being found on boot but it aint in the mnt folder.
what do I need to do to make it work?
i think its filesystem is FAT32 but i aint sure, does it have relevance in my installation of the device?
Gentoo forum should have wiki for usb mass storge devices. http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/ (Hardware) include articles on getting flashcard readers,usb/firwire drives installed(which apply to most usb mass storage devices) and should get your usb-mp3 player recognized and setup.
If your using KDE, make sure ivman, hal, and dbus are installed, then you should be able mount ur player by clicking on it under System, (taken from the KDE howto on www.gentoo.org)
