USB Recognition in RedHat 4.8

Hello -

I just upgraded on system from RedHat 4.0 to 4.8 and I'm having issues recognizing flash drives on the system. After a little bit of googling and attempting what some people recommend I am still having issues.

I've tried the lsusb command but it doesn't seem to be recognized. I've searched the media and dev directories but found nothing showing any system recognition of USB devices. The ports do work as I've hopped the mouse and keyboard around to all of them and they work just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Well you may try another approach :

#1 Unplug your USB device(s)
#2 Plug your USB peripheral, and in console
Code:
#dmesg |tail
#3 Check in the last lines where your peripheral has been mapped to (eg. /dev/sda, /dev/rmt, etc...)
#4 Then, juste create under '/media' or anywhere else a folder named, for example, 'USB_KEY'
#5 Just :
Code:
 mount /dev/sda /media/USB_KEY
Repeat for each peripheral.

Good luck !!

Yep, the software that I'm running has compatibility issues with versions higher then 4.8, so 5.0+ is not an option as an installed OS.

So after running /sbin/lsusb and going through a procedure I found online at novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11637.html I get a terminal response saying:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb or too many mounted file systems

As for the fs type, are they generally vfat? And aside from the main HDD there are no other mounted file systems to the boxes with this issue.

Thanks for all the help, slowwwwwly I'm getting there.
