I don't understand if you mean you want to boot from your USB stick or simply use it ?

If you mean you want a Live CD , MandrakeMove boots directly from a CD and allows you to store your files in a USB stick.

If you mean you just want to use your USB Stick in a standard Linux distribution, then the memory will just depend on the amount of information you want to store in there. Any new distribution will correctly detect a USB stick, I think. I haven't had problems with it in my computer (Red Hat Linux 9) and in Mandrake 9.2.

Checkout www.distrowatch.com

Size depends on the distro. DSL I think needs at least 50mb.

Does your computer BIOS have an option to boot from USB?

Ok ... I still don't understand what you want to do

a) If you want to boot from your USB Memory Stick - That means that the contents of your memory stick is Linux. You do not necessarily need to have Linux installed in your computer, for everything will be read from your USB stick.

If this is your situation ... check this: http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb/

Note that you will need:
- USB Memory Stick
- A computer that can actually boot from USB
- Some really small Linux distro.

b) If you want to boot from a CD- ROM and use your USB Stick for storage - That means you don't have Linux installed in your computer, and you want to insert a CD and load Linux. Your USB stick will store all your information.

Note that you will need:
- USB Stick
- A computer that will boot from CD-ROM
- A Live Linux Distribution (MandrakeMove, e.g.)

c) If you want to boot from your hard disk drive and just use your USB stick to store information. In this case, any distribution will be useful for you You just need to get into a console as root and type

mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/stick

(provided /mnt/stick actually exists )

Please give information about what you want. (What you plan to use your USB stick for, or something). Maybe we can guide you any further

My Bios said that it could boot from "USB-Floppy" so I think it will. I'm been using Morphix LightGUI that fits on mini cd. It not able to boot from USB yet but I would like to save my data.
