Unhappy USB Plextor CDRW .....any luck?


My Linux version...RedHat 9
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.4.20-8 #1 Thu Mar 13 17:54:28 EST 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Hey!
I am trying to connect my Plextor USB CDRW drive. I haven't had any luck. Here is a brief list of what I have tryed....:

I am confused! What is the proper way to connect a USB cdrom?

I think sda is reserved for hard drives. I might be wrong, though since I don't use any true scsi devices. Try using the /dev/scd0 or /dev/sr0 devices instead.

Tryed it..... still no luck. My internal CD is mounted as /dev/scd0
I tryed all the other scd# but still no luck.... I'm pretty bummed just want to burn a CD!

Is it actually a SCSI device? It wouldn't happen to be an IDE device would it?

then try /dev/scd1.
But the best thing was to restart your computer and post the "dmesg" right after it.

Ok well I got it working!!! Turns out the USB module has the drive connected as /dev/scd0. I can play a cd from it (granted no sound). I can burn data to it too. I am assuming the reason I was unable to mount the drive to the filesystem is due to the lack of filesystem on the audio disk I had in the drive. I will try with a data disk later..... but I am hopefull



X-CD-Roast is working though!

Oh yeah you can't mount audio CDs. Nor can you mount blank CDs.
