Unable to get the write properties for my flash drive

Hi all,

I have been using this Kingston flash drive for long now. The problem is: whenever I mount the drive, the OS says that I cannot write or modify data on it. It says that I do not have write permissions to do so. I have done everything I could with the /etc/fstab entries. I face the same problem with different flash drives and on different OS's - Gentoo, Debian etc.

Is there any solution? Also, sometimes, when I am writing data onto it, out of nowhere, the OS pops up a message saying wrting failed. I do not understand beyond this point.

Have you tried:

sudo chown [your username] /[the]/[location]

as in:

sudo chown darth_indy /media/disk

There's also a command to make all subfolders owned by you, but I can't remember it off the top of my head, and I'm on a Windows machine right now. If you're still having problems I suggest checking in

man chown
