Hi!

I am new to Linux. I have installed a few days ago Mandrake 9.1 on my hp pavillion 750n.

Linux recognized the ethernet card ( intel pro 100/ve) and installed the driver, but I don't have connection.

I had the same problem on Windows, but fixed it changing the speed configuration of the card to 10Mbps.
I am unable to make those changes in Linux.

Somebody can help me?

I'm fairly new to linux myself, but I see you have no replies yet, so I'll ask:

What is the output of ifconfig (when run as root)? Do you have an ethx entry (eth0, eth1, whatever?)

If you have no ethx entry, try running netconf as root.

You don't mention your "connection" type. Is it a LAN connection, or perhaps a single-user maching running a cable modem or DSL connection? I have Time-Warner cable modem connection and telling netconf to DHCP my network information worked for me (I'm typing this on Slack-9, so I...er...Slack must have done something right).

Sorry if these are elementary questions/statements, but there wasn't so much information in your post for me to determine how much you know about your problem.

Additionally, even if I can't answer your question, perhaps having a reply entered on your topic will get you more detailed/knowledgeable responses from more qualified people than myself.

Regarding the missing informations:
We are in a lan conected to a dsl connection.
No proxy server, we directly connect to the gateway: 10.0.0.1
Nobody works with DHCP. We asssigned a permanent Ip address to every computer in the lan.

To answer your question, my knowledge of the problem is very poor. I have to acknowledge I am a bit lost. My native language is french, and what you tell me (ethx entry, eth0, netconf...) looks, for a newnewbie like me, like chinese .

WHere do I run ifconfig? In a console?
What is a ethx entry? How can I know if I have one?
How do I run netconf? In a console?
What is Slack?...

I have just ran ifconfig, and it shows the etho.

It looks like it works badly, as no packets come back.
