Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

tpconfig - no psaux

I'm running RHEL 4 kernel 2.6 on a Presario 2100 notebook. In the past I've used tpconfig to turn off mouse tapping, since the Synaptics mousepad on the Presario is a piece of, well, nevermind - just suffice it to say that it fires at random due to static discharge, which is extremely annoying. In any case, the tpconfig script that turns off touchpad tap-to-click helps to alleviate the problem, but it accesses the mouse via /dev/psaux which is obsolete under kernel 2.6 evidently. I've tried adding a symbolic link in the tpconfig script to /dev/input/mouse0, /dev/mouse0, /dev/input/mice, etc., but tpconfig still can't find the touchpad. Has anyone had success getting tpconfig to turn off touchpad tap-to-click under kernel 2.6? Thanks.
