Spell out your words.

Also, this post is very hard to understand. Seems to be several things here...first, you say you are "facing probs in booting". WHAT problems? Those could be the cause of the messages coming up on system console. And since you're booting that far, why don't you just switch to another terminal that's NOT the system console, and you won't see those messages?

And your webcam (Bus 002...hmm...same as the error in your kernel log) question is in another thread on here, where you were missing a module. Did you load it? Recompile the kernel module?

the kernel module needed is uvcvideo

ankush@ankush-laptop:~/Documents/iitD-II/project/development/kernel$ sudo lsmod | grep uvcvideo
uvcvideo 65260 0
videodev 43360 1 uvcvideo
v4l1_compat 16644 2 uvcvideo,videodev

###how do i insert it at startup time my /etc/modules file is having this entry.

i am having 3 problems and all i guess are linked to the same device
usb2 device "Chicony webcam"

in particular when i boot from grub and make my choice of the OS i want to boot into the grub gives me a blank screen and does nothing ...then i use the power button to reboot...

this i do 2-3 times and then it allows me to boot

i wonder is it a kernel crash

all the times i am using the -noapic -nousb command in the grub editor

________________________________----------------------------------->

ok the problem of booting is solved it was just my grub had got corrupted and i repaired it from the live CD

but the usb2 prob is still there and also i see that when i boot from grub without -apci

the lsusb output is

ankush@ankush-laptop:~$ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 04f2:b015 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd VGA 24fps UVC Webcam
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 060: ID 12d1:140b Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
Bus 003 Device 075: ID 15ca:00c3 Textech International Ltd. Mini Optical Mouse
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 08ff:2580 AuthenTec, Inc. AES2501 Fingerprint Sensor
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

in other words the webcam hardware is not detected

can someone please put me in the correct direction

Hi,

BIOS update has to be provided from the mainboard vendor. Therefor it is required to know the exact model/type. Do not try to install "some BIOS Update", this will result in a complete unusable piece of hardware.

No, no one can help you with your BIOS update. That's a job you have to do. Most vendors provides bootable floppy or CD to update BIOS software.

So go out to Quanta's site, and download the BIOS update, and follow their instructions. Google can help you too, but no one here can. This is something that's going to vary by board, manufacturer, etc..

i removed DSDT patch by following a post on suse and ubuntu forums..

it helped me a little bit in the sense that grub and BIOS are interacting better..the BIOS is behaving more robust

however i tried to do an update using a pen drive with fat16 and installed DOS in it then i downloaded the exe file from my vendor which was providing me the update on its site for my mother boaard

i am using hp pavillion dv6500au which is amd64 turion with nvidia chipset
do i downlaod XP or vista 64 bit or window7 64 bit update?

i tried the XP install it is not installing

iam using qemu to boot into DOS.

this method has failed

using DOS by unetbootin utility

You download whatever it is you need. Again, we cannot help you with BIOS updates. Since you tried XP and it didn't work, try something else. And DOS isn't Windows in any way, so I'm not surprised it failed.

You CAN'T do any change to your firmware from an emulated environment. What you have to do is to boot your *real* machine into DOS and do the necessary operations from this environment. If you have a floppy drive & a floppy disk, you should install DOS on it and boot from it. Many machines can boot from USB drive, so you might be able to use this option to start DOS.

I see you've been a forum member since 2003. Have you learned the difference between linux, dos, and windows in that time?

As several responders said, the bios upgrade must be done according to the instructions given by the motherboard manufacturer using the OS they say to use (usually dos or windows).

Please also limit your posts to ONE question at a time.

wow suddenly someone asks me the difference between windows dos and linux

hmmm

anyways waht i was trying to ask was that there is a method to flash the bios through linux and incase any one has used it please post it here

else the window XP via virtual box has failed and DOS on fat16 via bootable usb has also failed

i feel that the motherboard update and the tainted kernel problem coexist hence i posted both the queries in the same thread
thanx

Yes, it does exist. BUT! You should know that if you flash the BIOS, you risk on losing your machine (make it not boot until the BIOS is reflashed with proper firmware (maybe using special hardware)). This risk increases if you use tools which are not officially recommended by manufacturer, i.e. the ones for Linux.
Now that you know the risks, here's what you can try:
flashrom package - part of CoreBoot project. I don't know if the manufacturer-supplied firmware image needs any conversion before flashing - you use it at Your Own Risk.
