Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

TFT monitor detection

I tried booting knoppix on a PC with a new (but crappy and cheap) TFT monitor. Knoppix boots up OK (I can hear the start message), but it fails to detect the monitor, and instead I get no picture.

Just so this doesn't happen in the next version of Knoppix, and Linux being a "hands on" community. I was curious about writing a driver that could detect this monitor, say in future Linux releases - rather than wait for someone else to do it.

Anyone know where to start work on this, or where to look for info on doing this?
