System Halt with USB Harddrive
So am in the process of getting my external USB/Firewire hard drive up and running on a Powerbook Pismo I was given recently. Running Yellow Dog Linux 3.0.1.
Anyway, most of my problems were ignorance related. Now I have one that isn't so much, I think.
Linux will consisently halt when I plug in my USB hard drive. In a console, as soon as I plug in the drive, some messaging appears indicating that it is being read, but then nothing. I've had more luck when I run KDE and try the same.
Frequently, also, Linux will beging it's boot sequence and halt when searching for new hardware. Usually this occurs after I am forced to manually powerdown the system.
The few times I have gotten the drive to work recently have been when I have the drive plugged in, but off, then load Linux, then turn the drive's power on.
What in the world could be causing these halts? The drive contains a large amount of information, though I can't see why that would be a huge issue.
At first the drive was running fairly decently, I was just having problems mounting it (the ignorance bit).
Thanks in advance. Hopefully I didn't already muck up this install.
