Suse 9.3 and 945GM graphics card

Hello everyone

I have two problems with Suse 9.3 but i think they are related. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 9400 with a 17 inch LCD screen. The two problems are a) Suse wont recognise the graphics card-an intel 945GM so the resolution and graphics are awful and b) i have the computer partitioned and when i come back into Suse from Windows the VBIOS LCD expansion is off so everytime i come back into Linux i have to F2 frantically and enable it again.
I have tried downloading the driver for 945 GM from Intel (IEGD_5_1) however i am stuck at two points:
a) Specify port drivers in your xorg file. Do i make a sperate section for them? ie 'Device' port drivers etc or do i put them in under the graphics card?
b) I cant install the patches for the GART driver however i think this is because i dont have anything in /usr/src/linux-2.6 only Modules.symver. I take it i need to download the source from DVD2

HELPPPPP i am at the end of my tether googling all the things that have gone wrong during installation

I put this initially on the laptop forum nut didnt get any feedback so sorry if you are reading this twice

Can you give some specifics about which tools provided by SuSE 9.3 you've used to try to configure graphics?

Graphics configuring

Hello Bigrigdriver

Thanks for replying. I initially tried using Yast-going into Graphics card and trying different Intel cards to see if 915GM would do the job but it didnt. The default Vesa selected by Yast2 which it uses when it cant recognise the card isnt very good and for my work i do need high resolution graphics-wish i had upgraded to ATI card that i had in my last computer now.
I then googled for a driver and downloaded one from the Intel site which should work and followed the instructions-i have never done this before for Linux so this is prob where i am going wrong. With Suse 9.3 it doesnt automatically install all the source files so i am going to do this today. I thought i would be able to install a driver using Yast2 but cant figure out how to so i am doing it manually.
COuld you tell me if the VBIOS and the graphics card issues are related?
I see in Suse 10.2 that it does recognise Intel cards automatically, would i be better just upgrading?

Thanks for any assistance, i am extremely keen to learn but need just some pointers

Cheers
