suse 9.2 printer problem - cups??
Hi, newbie here. I have a compaq nx9030 laptop and am trying to install an hp deskjet 940c printer. I cannot seem to print anything. I know it's not the cable that's the problem because suse detects the printer, it's just that nothing happens when I go to print. I checked the cables and the power source. The document says that it's printing too, there's no error message that says that there's miscommunication between linux and the printer.
When I go into yast to configure the printer, it says, "Cups daemon died during initialization." It says this throughout the whole process. When I get to the printer configuration part and click "finish", it gives me the same error message. The strange thing is, it prompts me to finish. It doesn't give an option to abort because there's a problem.
I have no idea what cups is. For the record, I am having a hard time installing the printer on windows xp as well. I downloaded the drivers from a website, but the installation seemed to go fine. Winblows won't detect the printer but suse will.... Uggh. Can someone help me?
Thanks,
Rachel
