Suse 9.0 pro and graphics card mishaps

heres the deal. i have a nvidia Geforce FX 5700 LE and I've already loaded the latest drivers (at least i thought i did) but when i try to configure my videocard my monitor quits and says Frequency out of range, So I'm doomed when i try to even look at the config screen. Is there something I'm missing??
any help would be much appreciated
