OK this is a headache.... I have an acer aspire one 722 netbook... and well trying to get the onboard wireless adapter to work has proven futile... its there, lsusb sees it, but it doesnt run cant bring it up... is not recognized by the system... tried compling drivers and what not as per the instructions given by the chipset maker (broadcom) no luck... so I decided to purchase an external USB wireless adapter from Dlink.. the Dlink dwa 160 extreme (aint so extreme at this point) the support page at Dlink gives the drivers same thing, lsusb shows it is there but nada.. AND a linux driver.. I downloaded the linux driver and compiled as per the instructions but still no luck.. I plug the device into any one of the 3 usb ports and NOTHING does not see the usb adapter... HOWEVER when I use my ancient airlink+ usb adapeter (which only has 802.11g capability) it works every time... truly plug n play.... I need some information as to why FC 15 does not see the dlink adapter when it is plugged in ( that would at least be a good start.. having the machine see the adapter.. lol ) I am stumped... this machine runs both linux and windoze and in windows I have no problems... connecting with the Dlink... but I want to use linux more often and would love to get this Dlink working.. expecially after I bought a new wireless router with 802.11 N ability.. you know just want to get my moneys worth.
any information you may have would be appreciated, if I have left anything out please ask me to fill in the blanks .. will do so as best I can.
Thank for your time and effort in helping with this problem.

There should be a way to get the Broadcom to work. Please run the command lspci in a terminal; it will report the Broadcom chipset.
Also, what Linux distro are you using (I'm not sure what you meant by FC 15, unless you mean Fedora, because the "Fedora Core" name is no longer used)? That affects how we can help you get the Broadcom working.
Yes it is Fedora 15.. The issue with the broadcom driver is that I read that I have to completely recompile the kernel to support the broadcom chipset. I am no where near competent enough to do that with out messing up the OS... (obviously I could reinstall and start over, but dont really want to do that). I bought the Dlink for the better range and signal.. (they claim better db gain over internal adapters so this is why I bought the Dlink). so the problem still remains the RPM provided by Dlink for linux installs, but no life in the adapter... the other components to add security encryption wont compile.. I use the make command and it starts out ok like everything is going fine then it ends with an error 2 ... I will post that if needed along with the instructions that came with the linux driver.

The Issue is that when I plugged in my USB Dlink DWA-160 it is not even recognized, there is no trace of it... (and yes I installed the driver for linux provided by Dlink) but nothing... HOWEVER I can plug in my USB Airlink+ adapeter and it runs fine .. sees my wireless router works with no issues... but again the builtin broadcom adapeter is not accessable, tho it is seen.. and the Dlink well it is not seen so... with the broadcom adapter, the company suggests that a complete recompling of the kernel with the correct dirvers would bring the adapeter online in linux, but I am not even sure where to begin with that option... that is why I bought the Dlink.. but there are issues with this as well. so you can see my problem.
